Tanzania eVisa: Official Site and the Right Fee for Your Route (2026)

Check the passport route first

The current guidelines separate visa-exempt passports, passports eligible for online or arrival processing, and referral cases that must apply online and wait for approval. Read the lists for the passport you will carry.

If the passport is exempt for this trip, there is no eVisa fee to pay.

Official application portal

The portal covers both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. It accepts the form and payment online, emails the decision, and provides a status route for downloading the Visa Grant Notice.

The three tourism and transit figures

• Ordinary Visa: USD 50, valid up to 90 days. This is the normal tourism route except for United States passport holders.
• Multiple Visa for United States tourism: USD 100. The guideline requires this route even for a planned single visit.
• Transit Visa: USD 30, valid for onward transit for no more than 7 days. It is not valid for tourism.

The page therefore uses “Varies by passport” rather than presenting USD 50 as universal.

Timing and documents

The normal online processing period is within 10 days. Referral cases are told to apply at least 2 months before travel.

Before submitting, prepare:

• a passport valid for at least 6 months with one unused visa page;
• a colour JPG or JPEG face photo, up to 45 mm by 35 mm and 500 KB;
• the passport bio page;
• a return ticket for Ordinary Visa, or destination visa and/or onward ticket for Transit;
• the fee for the selected route.

What the grant notice means

A Visa Grant Notice authorizes travel for entry clearance. It does not guarantee admission. Carry the notice and the same passport, and be ready to show the return or onward documents at the entry point.
