Taiwan TWAC · field guide · varies

The fields where people get the official TWAC wrong, in form order.

The official English user manual names the items the arrival card collects, including which ones are conditional. It does not publish the live form's regexes, character limits or validation messages, so this guide states none. The 13 cards below follow the manual.

§ Fields, in order

13 fields, 4 sections, varies total.

All sections Showing 13 of 13
Section 1 · Account and document
01

Email verification

The manual starts with email verification and ends with a confirmation email or electronic document. Use an address you can open while travelling, not one someone else controls.

02

Passport upload or manual entry

The manual offers a passport upload or manual entry. Either path must match the passport you carry, because inspection retrieves the record from a passport scan.

03

Nationality

Enter nationality as the travel document shows it. A transit point or a country of residence is a different thing and does not belong in this field.

04

Passport expiry

Copy the expiry date from the passport data page. Issue date and expiry date sit next to each other there, which is exactly why they get swapped.

Section 2 · Applicant details
05

Visa type and number (conditional)

Visa type and number are conditional. They appear only for travellers whose entry route requires them. If the form does not show them, there is nothing missing.

06

Occupation or job title (conditional)

Occupation and job title are conditional in the manual. When the form presents them, answer with the role you actually hold.

07

Phone number

A phone number is collected next to the email. Give one that can be reached during the visit rather than a line you turn off when you land.

Section 3 · Travel
08

Arrival flight or vessel

The manual collects the arrival flight or vessel. Use the operating service for the segment that lands in Taiwan, which is what appears on the manifest.

09

Departure flight or vessel

The departure flight or vessel is asked in the same section. Have the onward booking to hand before you start, because the form asks for it at submission time.

10

Departure date

The manual states DD/MM/YYYY for the departure date. That is the one date format the official document publishes, so it is the one this guide repeats.

Section 4 · Stay
11

Purpose of visit

Purpose of visit is collected. Choosing Other opens a reason field. Choosing to visit relatives opens a relative contact field. Pick the purpose that is true and then finish the field it opens.

12

Accommodation

Give the address or property where you are staying. A city name on its own answers a different question than the one being asked.

13

Relative contact (conditional)

The manual adds a relative contact when the purpose is visiting relatives. It does not appear for other purposes, so there is nothing to prepare unless that is your trip.

§ After submit

What happens between hitting submit and getting through immigration.

  1. 01

    Confirmation screen

The official site shows a confirmation on screen. Screenshot it — that's your backup.

  2. 02

    Confirmation arrives by email

The system sends a confirmation email or electronic document after submission. Email verification also happens at the start, so use an inbox you can open during the trip.

  3. 03

    At immigration

The system sends a confirmation email or electronic document. You do not need to show it at inspection, because scanning the passport retrieves the TWAC record.

  4. 04

    No printout needed

The manual says you do not need to show the confirmation at inspection. Scanning the passport retrieves the TWAC data.

  5. 05

    The passport is the key

Because the record is retrieved by passport scan, the passport used in the submission is the one to carry.

This guide follows the official English user manual. The live form publishes no regexes, character limits or validation messages, so none appear here. The one format the manual does state, DD/MM/YYYY for the departure date, is repeated below.

Section 1: Account and document

1. Email verification. The flow opens with an email verification step and closes with a confirmation email or electronic document. Use an inbox you can open while travelling.

2. Passport upload or manual entry. The manual offers both. Either path must match the passport you actually carry, because inspection retrieves the record from a passport scan.

3. Nationality. Enter it as the travel document shows it. A transit point or country of residence is a different thing.

4. Passport expiry. Copy it from the data page. Issue date and expiry sit next to each other there, which is why they get swapped.

Section 2: Applicant details

5. Visa type and number. Conditional. These appear only for travellers whose entry route requires them. If the form does not show the pair, nothing is missing.

6. Occupation and job title. Also conditional. When they appear, answer with the role you actually hold.

7. Phone number. Give a number reachable during the visit, not a line you switch off on landing.

Section 3: Travel

8. Arrival flight or vessel. Use the operating service for the segment that lands in Taiwan, which is what appears on the manifest.

9. Departure flight or vessel. Asked in the same section, at submission time. Have the onward booking to hand before you start.

10. Departure date. The manual gives DD/MM/YYYY. This is the only date format the official document publishes, so it is the only one this guide states.

Section 4: Stay

11. Purpose of visit. Choosing Other opens a reason field. Choosing to visit relatives opens a relative contact field. Pick the true purpose, then finish whatever it opens.

12. Accommodation. Give the address or property for the stay. A city name answers a narrower question than the one asked.

13. Relative contact. Appears only when the purpose is visiting relatives.

Filing for a group

One person may file individually for up to 10 travellers, and the group-file import supports up to 16. Submit within 7 days before arrival.

After submission

The system sends a confirmation email or electronic document. You do not need to show it at inspection, because scanning the passport retrieves the TWAC data. Carrying the same passport used in the submission is the whole requirement.
