Russia e-Visa · field guide · ~20 minutes + 4 days processing

The fields where people get the official e-Visa wrong, in form order.

The live application sits behind a personal-account login, so no field regexes, character limits or official validation error text could be read. This guide states none. What it does carry is the ministry's published conditions: the 86-to-4-day application window, the machine-readable passport rule, the 35x45 JPEG photo spec and the 30-day stay count.

§ Fields, in order

13 fields, 3 sections, ~20 minutes + 4 days processing total.

All sections Showing 13 of 13
Section 1 · Route and eligibility
01

E-visa nationality eligibility

Check the ministry's 64-state list for the passport you will carry before you create a personal account. A passport outside that list has to apply for a regular visa at a Russian diplomatic mission or consular post, and no online form exists for it.

02

Purpose of travel

The e-visa covers a private or business visit, tourism, and participation in scientific, cultural, socio-political, economic or sporting events. There is no transit purpose to select. Anything else needs a regular visa.

03

Children travelling with you

Every minor child needs a separate application and a separate e-visa, even when the child is registered in your passport. Children under 6 on the date of submission pay no consular fee.

04

Medical insurance valid in Russia

Travellers on a unified e-visa must hold medical insurance valid in Russia for the whole stay. Some nationalities are exempt on the basis of reciprocity. The application asks about it, but the FAQ says missing insurance data alone is not a reason for refusal or for returning the application.

05

Consular fee payment

The amount is shown only at the payment step. Invoices are issued in dirhams or yuan, and the FAQ says only cards issued by banks of other countries work. Confirmation takes 20 to 45 minutes, and the fee is not refunded whatever the outcome.

Section 2 · Account and documents
06

Email address for notifications

Progress and result notifications go to this address and to your personal account. The ministry asks applicants to use an alternative to Gmail because delivery has been unstable and delayed. You will need it to sign in and to track corrections.

07

Passport number

Type the number from the passport you will carry. The passport must be machine-readable. If the form rejects the number, the official advice is to write to evisa_info@kdmid.ru with a photo of the passport attached; the ministry does not publish the rule the field applies.

08

Photo of the passport data page

Prepare a digital photo of the passport data page in JPEG format, taken from the passport you will use at the border. Keep the whole data page in frame.

09

Digital face photo

Use a photo taken within the last 6 months. Full face, neutral expression, plain light background, no shadows or flash reflections. It must be rectangular with a 35x45 aspect ratio, and the face must take up 70-80 percent of the photo.

10

Passport validity and stamp space

The passport must be issued by your country of nationality and machine-readable, valid for at least 6 months from the date the application is submitted, with sufficient space for border crossing stamps. An application that fails this cannot be accepted for processing.

Section 3 · Dates and border
11

Intended date of entry

The application can be submitted no earlier than 86 days and no later than 4 days before the expected entry date. Processing takes up to 4 calendar days and does not count the day of submission. The site's calculator asks for the date in DD.MM.YYYY format.

12

Length of stay

The stay may not exceed 30 days from the date of entry, and the exit date cannot be later than 120 days after the visa is issued. The ministry warns that the arrival day and the departure day both count, so 30 days is not 720 hours of net time. Its own visa calculator does the arithmetic.

13

Entry and exit crossing points

Entry and exit must both use crossing points on the government-approved list. The published list is grouped into air, road, rail, sea and pedestrian points, and includes Moscow's Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo and Zhukovsky airports, Saint Petersburg Pulkovo and Vladivostok Knevichi. At least one listed road point, Ivangorod, is marked temporarily closed for reconstruction.

§ After submit

What happens between hitting submit and getting through immigration.

  1. 01

    Confirmation screen

The official site shows a confirmation on screen. Screenshot it — that's your backup.

  2. 02

    Email arrives

Within a few minutes from a kdmid.ru address, with the record details.

  3. 03

    At immigration

A PDF notification to print or keep on your phone. You show it when boarding and again to the Border Service officer at an approved crossing point, together with the passport used in the application.

  4. 04

    No printout needed

Screenshot is fine. PDF is fine. Even the email app open on your phone is fine.

  5. 05

    If verification fails

Rare. Officer looks you up by passport number — your record is already in the system.

The application form is only reachable after signing in to a personal account, so no field regexes, character limits or official error text could be read. This guide invents none. It lists the conditions the ministry publishes on its Instruction page and FAQ, in the order you meet them.

Section 1: Route and eligibility

1. Nationality. Check the 64-state list before creating an account. Outside it, the e-visa route does not exist.

2. Purpose of travel. Private or business visit, tourism, or attendance at a scientific, cultural, socio-political, economic or sporting event. There is no transit option to select.

3. Children. Every minor child needs a separate application and a separate e-visa, even when registered in your passport. Applicants under 6 pay no consular fee.

4. Medical insurance. Required for the whole stay and valid in Russia, with exemptions on the basis of reciprocity. The FAQ says missing insurance data alone is not a reason for refusal.

5. Payment card. A card issued outside Russia. The amount appears at the payment step, invoices come in dirhams or yuan, confirmation takes 20 to 45 minutes, and nothing is refunded.

Section 2: Account and documents

6. Email address. Notifications go here and to your personal account. The ministry asks you to avoid Gmail because delivery has been unstable and delayed.

7. Passport number. From the machine-readable passport you will carry. If the field rejects it, the official advice is to write to evisa_info@kdmid.ru with a passport photo attached; the rule the field applies is not published.

8. Passport data page. A digital photo in JPEG format of the data page of the passport you will use at the border.

9. Face photo. Taken within 6 months, full face, neutral expression, plain light background, no shadows. Rectangular, 35x45 aspect ratio, face taking 70-80 percent of the photo.

10. Passport validity. At least 6 months from the date the application is submitted, plus space for border stamps. Issued by your country of nationality and machine-readable.

Section 3: Dates and border

11. Intended entry date. Submit no earlier than 86 days and no later than 4 days before it. The site’s calculator uses DD.MM.YYYY.

12. Length of stay. No more than 30 days from entry, and exit no later than 120 days after issue. Arrival and departure days both count.

13. Crossing points. Entry and exit must both sit on the approved list, from Moscow’s four international airports to Vladivostok Knevichi by air, and a separate road, rail, sea and pedestrian set.

After submission

Processing takes up to 4 calendar days and does not count the day of submission. The status moves through “Draft saved”, “Payment required”, “Application is being processed”, “Correction required” and “Processing completed”. A returned application must be corrected and resubmitted, and the clock restarts from that resubmission.

When the decision is made, download the PDF and print it. Show it when boarding and again at passport control, with the passport used in the application.
