When to apply

Arrival: after baggage collection and before the customs lanes. Departure: after airline check-in and before security.

Who it applies to

The Customs Administration lists separate thresholds: foreign cash over USD10,000 equivalent; bearer negotiable securities over USD10,000 face value; gold over USD20,000 value; non-personal diamonds, gemstones or platinum over TWD500,000. TWD100,000 and CNY20,000 are carrying limits with separate controls. Reporting an excess does not itself authorize carriage: excess incoming TWD is returned and excess incoming CNY is held for departure. Gold over its threshold additionally needs an import/export permit.
