At arrival at the airport or port; baggage of any traveller may be searched by Customs officers.
Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)
Passengers on international flights arriving in Mauritius must declare to customs: prohibited or restricted goods (weapons, agricultural products, wildlife products, pharmaceuticals, illicit drugs); goods in excess of the duty-free allowance (Rs 30,000 Mauritian / Rs 15,000 foreign passport holders, and tobacco/alcohol beyond allowance); merchandise for sale; and currency or bearer negotiable instruments (bearer traveller's cheques, cheques, promissory notes, money orders), precious stones and metals including gold, diamond and jewellery, or other high-value goods including works of art exceeding Rs 500,000 in value. A self-elective Red/Green Channel system operates at the airport and port; passengers with anything to declare — or unsure — must use the Red Channel. Selecting the Green Channel is deemed a declaration that the passenger has none of the above; interception with such goods constitutes an offence with duty, penalties and/or seizure.
