When to apply

Apply for permanent-return relief; official processing time is 15 days.

Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)

People returning permanently may apply for customs-duty and tax relief on objects, effects, furniture and vehicles. The official application page requests a municipal moving certificate stating foreign-residence start/end dates, a vehicle registration in the applicant’s name dated at least one year before return, and a certificate of stay abroad (four years for diplomats, eight for others). Applications are received by the finance ministry cabinet and processed by DGD/D4. The stated processing period is 15 days and the application requires a 20 MRU fiscal stamp. This is an application subject to approval, not automatic traveller exemption.

When to apply

When non-commercial goods require formal customs clearance.

Who it applies to

The government goods-clearance procedure says non-commercial operations may be declared by their owner; otherwise an accredited customs broker is required. The page concerns general goods clearance and requests a detailed declaration with shipping documents and invoices as applicable. It does not establish a passenger allowance or require every traveller to use the commercial cargo process.
