At the moment of crossing the state border, in either direction (entry into or exit from Moldova): the completed and signed currency-values declaration, with the transported currency values, is presented for customs control at the customs post through which the person enters or leaves the country, after informing the customs officer, who provides the form.
Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)
Natural persons, residents and non-residents of Moldova; BOTH directions — bringing into or taking out of Moldova. Written declaration to the customs authorities is OBLIGATORY when the total, per person per trip, of (a) cash in national currency plus foreign-currency cash and traveller's cheques, or (b) securities and payment instruments other than foreign-currency traveller's cheques, is EUR 10,000 (or equivalent) or more (Law No. 62/2008 on currency regulation, Art. 33(1), as amended by Law No. 124 of 29.05.2025, in force 12.07.2025). Below EUR 10,000 per person/trip, written declaration is a right, not a duty (Art. 33(2)). Per the Customs Service standing page: the mandatory case is handled on the 'Declarația valorilor valutare' form (Customs Service Order No. 516-O of 07.12.2023), the optional case on the traveller's customs declaration (Order No. 482-O/2023); the currency-values declaration covers the values regardless of who owns them, once the total starts from EUR 10,000 (or equivalent) per person/trip. The traveller informs the customs officer of the intent to declare and the officer provides the form (Romanian or English, completed manually in block capitals). The red channel must be used when carrying currency, goods or other values that must be declared; the green channel only when carrying nothing declarable. Cash in national or foreign currency and foreign-currency traveller's cheques may NOT be brought in/taken out in unaccompanied baggage. Age condition for declaration: not stated (unknown). Fee: not stated (unknown).
