At the border crossing on entry: declare carried goods beyond the allowances unsolicited — via the QuickZoll app (self-assessment, usable before reaching the border) or at the red channel / customs post on arrival; nothing to declare → green channel or dashboard visor card. Crossing between Switzerland and Liechtenstein is not a repeat declaration point for this goods declaration — Treaty Art. 1(2) expressly provides only that neither side may levy duties or impose general import/export restrictions at that internal border; no assertion is made that customs questioning or other checks cannot occur there.
Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)
Direction: travellers entering the common Swiss–Liechtenstein customs territory with goods — for Liechtenstein this is effectively its external border (with Austria); the same Swiss rules govern the Swiss external borders, while crossing between Switzerland and Liechtenstein is not a repeat declaration point for these import matters — the 1923 Customs Union Treaty Art. 1(2) expressly provides only that neither side may levy duties or impose general import/export restrictions at that internal border, and no assertion is made that customs questioning or other checks cannot occur there. Territorial basis: Treaty Art. 1(1) and Art. 4(1); EGZV Art. 1(1) (entire Swiss customs legislation applies in Liechtenstein). At the border crossing, travellers should keep recognized valid travel documents ready and unsolicitedly declare all goods and animals they are carrying that are not covered by the duty-free allowances (Freimengen) and the value-free limit (Wertfreigrenze) — i.e. declarable goods must be declared even without being asked. The customs declaration can be completed for most goods with the QuickZoll app (which also pre-calculates import charges for traveller imports); travellers unsure whether goods must be declared should choose the red channel / customs office, while travellers with nothing to declare may use the green channel (e.g. at airports) or display the green visor self-declaration card (Sichtzollanmeldung) on the dashboard when crossing by car. The green self-declaration is binding, and customs staff may conduct controls without questioning. Specific allowance figures (including any CHF 150-type value-free limit) are deliberately NOT asserted here: the direction-specific BAZG subpages carrying the figures were not captured for this record (see unresolved).
