On arrival in the Isle of Man from outside the UK: declare over-allowance goods to a Customs Officer (in person, by red phone, or via the red channel / red point phone), or pay and declare from 72 hours before arrival through the Online Service for Passengers and then use the green channel if nothing further to declare; duty-free alcohol/tobacco bought abroad by an under-18 traveller must be declared before arrival.
Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)
Scope and direction: travellers arriving in the Isle of Man from a country other than the UK — the page's own scope is 'When travelling from a country other than the UK you can bring goods up to specified limits without paying duty and/or tax (VAT), known as duty-free allowances'. Arrivals from the UK are covered by IM-arrival-from-uk-goods-declaration (gov.im Travelling to the Island from the UK page, captured 2026-09-29). The allowances apply only to goods for your own use, transported by you; goods for sale or any payment are commercial use and the allowances do not apply. Allowances: alcohol (no allowance under 17) — 4 litres of spirits or strong liqueurs over 22% ABV, or 9 litres of fortified wine (such as port or sherry), sparkling wine or any other alcoholic beverage of less than 22% ABV, combinable within the total alcohol allowance; in addition, 42 litres of beer and 18 litres of still wine. Tobacco (no allowance under 17) — 200 cigarettes, or 100 cigarillos, or 50 cigars, or 250g of tobacco (including shisha tobacco), or 200 sticks of tobacco for heating, combinable within the total tobacco allowance; alcohol and tobacco allowances cannot be combined. Under-18 rule: if a person under 18 can legally buy alcohol duty-free in the country of purchase, any alcohol and tobacco brought back to the Island must be declared before arrival in the Isle of Man. Other goods (including gifts and souvenirs) — most travellers up to £390; passengers travelling by private plane or boat for pleasure purposes only £270. Declaration action: if the goods listed exceed the limits shown, speak to a Customs Officer present or use the red phone (red phones are located in the arrivals hall at Ronaldsway Airport and the Sea Terminal); when arriving with personal goods or cash to declare you must use the red channel or the red point phone. You may alternatively pay any tax and duty due from 72 hours in advance of arrival using the HMRC Online Service for Passengers; having declared online and having nothing further to declare, you may use the green channel, retaining the reference number and email receipt as an officer may ask to check it. Consequences: if you bring in goods over your allowance you must pay taxes on all of the goods in that category, not just those above the allowance; you cannot share your personal allowances with other passengers; if you do not declare goods exceeding these limits, all goods carried within that allowance category may be seized, not just the excess. Declaration methods: per the gov.im imports-and-exports page, most personal goods can be declared by conduct (for example the green channel) or by oral declaration to an officer at a red channel, and these methods are still legal declarations. Duty rates: not stated on the captured pages (the Isle of Man aligns customs and excise duty rates with the UK under the Customs and Excise Agreement 1979 and signposts GOV.UK simplified rates), so the rate is recorded as unknown.

On arrival in the Isle of Man from the UK: unlimited amounts of most goods may be brought in (no duty-free allowance is stated), but use the Red Channel (where available) or the red phone point at the Sea Terminal or Ronaldsway Airport if you have goods or cash to declare, have commercial goods requiring customs assistance or clearance, or are not sure what you need to declare.
Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)
Scope and direction: travellers arriving in the Isle of Man from the UK — the page's own scope is 'this page relates only to travel from the UK to the Island'; arrivals from a country other than the UK are covered by IM-arrival-goods-over-allowance-declaration. Core rule: travelling from the UK to the Island you may bring in unlimited amounts of most goods — an allowance-free rule for 'most goods' only, not for all goods: the page states no duty-free allowances for UK arrivals, and certain goods remain prohibited or restricted regardless of the country travelled from, so UK arrival must not be read as 'nothing to declare'. Conditional declaration duty: you must use the Red Channel (where available) or Red Phone if you have goods or cash to declare, have commercial goods for which you require customs assistance or clearance, or are not sure about what you need to declare. Where to declare: at the Sea Terminal and Ronaldsway Airport there is a red phone point where you can declare goods. Cash, kept separate: declaring cash carried into the Island is a separate procedure — see IM-cash-declaration-over-10000.
