At arrival in the Faroe Islands — in the airport arrival hall or at the ferry terminal, before leaving the customs area; the allowance is usable once within 24 hours.
Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)
Direction: travellers arriving in the Faroe Islands. On arrival, in the airport arrival hall or at the ferry terminal, the traveller must choose to go through the red or the green customs channel; both are clearly marked. Green channel: only goods within the duty-free allowance and with a total value not exceeding DKK 2,500 excl. VAT; passing through it counts as declaring nothing, customs may carry out selective checks, and goods found undeclared in a check are fined. Red channel: goods with a value exceeding DKK 2,500 excl. VAT, quantities above the duty-free allowance, or special goods such as a dog or a cat; travellers in doubt must also use the red channel and ask a customs officer. Trigger conditions per TAKS (Faroese rules only — not the Danish/EU allowances): the duty-free allowance may be used once within 24 hours; minimum age 18 for alcohol or tobacco. Alcohol options: 1 litre of spirits over 22% ABV (at most 60% ABV) plus 1 litre of fortified wine up to 22% ABV plus 2 litres of beer or cider up to 5.8% ABV; or 1 litre of spirits over 22% ABV plus 2.25 litres of table wine plus 2 litres of beer or cider; or 2.25 litres of fortified wine plus 2 litres of beer or cider; or 4.5 litres of table wine plus 2 litres of beer or cider; or 10 litres of beer or cider. Tobacco: 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco or 250 grams of snuff (nicotine pouches). Chocolates/sweets maximum 3 kilograms; soda maximum 10 litres. Other goods may be imported duty-free if the total value does not exceed DKK 2,500 excl. VAT; if exceeded, duty is payable on the total value, and goods consisting of multiple parts belonging together cannot be split across trips or persons. For alcohol above the allowance, travellers aged 18 and over may, when arriving, pay duty on totals of up to 3 litres of spirits between 22% and 60% ABV, 9 litres of wine or other alcohol up to 22% ABV and 10 litres of beer or cider; anything exceeding these amounts is confiscated by customs.

In good time before travel (recommended by TAKS), or on arrival/departure at Vágar airport or the Tórshavn ferry terminal.
Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)
Direction: travellers entering or leaving the Faroe Islands. Travellers carrying available means of payment — cash (banknotes/coins) and/or bearer bonds (e.g. securities, money orders) — with a total value of EUR 10,000 or more (approximately DKK 75,000 per TAKS) must declare it to the customs authorities, according to § 29 sub-s 3 of the Faroese Customs Act as cited by TAKS and corroborated by the statutory wording itself: § 29 stk. 3, inserted by item 28 of Løgtingslóg nr. 49 frá 04.05.2021, was read on the official logir.fo page (browser DOM read of the selected provision; full act not downloaded) and requires travellers to or from the Faroese customs territory carrying such means worth EUR 10,000 or more to stop for customs inspection without being asked and to notify the customs authority of the full amount carried. Declare by completing and submitting the official Cash Declaration Form (T33, 3 pages incl. guide): write in capital letters or complete on a computer and print to sign; per the form, submit it via secure email to taks@taks.fo or by other secure means — the TAKS duty-free page also lists secure email customs@taks.fo and post to TAKS, Smyrilsvegur 20, Postboks 2151, 110 Tórshavn. TAKS recommends making the declaration in good time; the form can also be obtained and the declaration made at TAKS Customs at Vágar airport or the Tórshavn ferry terminal on arrival or departure. Penalties: a fine of 25% of the value exceeding EUR 10,000, no less than DKK 5,000; per the T33 form, a false, inaccurate or incomplete declaration is liable to penalties, detention or confiscation of the cash; customs may retain all cash if they think it may have links to criminal activity (§ 27 b of the Faroese Customs Act, as cited by TAKS). This is the Faroese T33 procedure, distinct from the Danish national cash declaration; TAKS states the obligation is part of an EU-wide anti-money-laundering strategy that also applies to the Faroe Islands.
