When to apply

On arrival in Denmark (by plane, at some points of entry): select the green exit if you carry no goods on which you have to pay customs duty, VAT and excise duties; if you carry such goods — or are in doubt about whether you comply — go through the red exit and declare to the Danish Customs Agency; if there is no red exit, contact the airport's customs clearance office instead.

Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)

Direction: travellers entering Denmark from a country outside the EU (per the captured page, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, the Canary Islands, the Åland Islands, the French overseas departments and territories, and the northern part of Cyprus are not regarded as EU countries). Per the Toldstyrelsen page 'Travelling outside the EU' captured live from toldst.dk on 2026-09-27 (HTTP 200): you must pay customs duties, VAT and excise duties if you have bought goods for a value of more than DKK 3,250 (arrival by plane or ship) or DKK 2,250 (arrival by other means of transport); you may be asked to show receipts, so keep them. An item exceeding the threshold is dutiable even when it consists of multiple parts functioning together (e.g. a camera and a lens); the liability cannot be avoided by bringing the parts separately or letting several persons bring different parts in. Special quantity limits apply to alcohol and tobacco, and alcohol and tobacco do not count towards the DKK 3,250/2,250 goods threshold (page example: arriving by plane with 1 litre of whisky priced DKK 1,500, you may also bring other goods worth DKK 3,250 duty-free within the limits). You must be 17 years old to bring alcohol and tobacco into Denmark. Tobacco quantity (alternatives as listed): 200 cigarettes, or 100 cigarillos (max. 3 g each), or 50 cigars, or 250 g of smoking tobacco. Alcohol quantity: 1 litre of spirits (above 22% alcohol and beverages to which alcohol has been added), or 2 litres of fortified wine (22% alcohol or less, e.g. Port, Sherry and Madeira, as well as sparkling wine such as Champagne), and 4 litres of table wine (e.g. red, white and rosé wine and cider-based wine), and 16 litres of beer (and beer-based cider). Motor fuel: 10 litres in spare cans in addition to the vehicle's normal tank. If you bought goods outside the EU and have a flight layover in an EU country, the outside-EU rules still apply. The rules only apply to goods physically brought with you, not to goods sent by mail (the online-shopping rules apply instead). Violations are fined — as a general rule at two times the duties payable (for goods such as tobacco, spirits, gold and silverware and jewellery the fine equals twice the duties; for clothing, electronics, bags and sportswear it equals once the duties), in addition to the duties; a page example prices 400 excess cigarettes at DKK 1,208 total via the red lane versus DKK 3,608 via the green lane including a DKK 2,400 fine.

When to apply

On arrival in Denmark by plane (at some points of entry): go through the green exit if you do not carry goods subject to customs duties, VAT and excise duties; if you carry such goods — or are in doubt about compliance — contact the Danish Customs Agency by going through the red exit; if there is no red exit, contact the airport's customs clearance office. Excise duties (and possibly a packaging deposit) are payable for goods that are not for own personal use.

Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)

Direction: travellers entering Denmark from another EU country. The non-EU-route DKK 3,250/2,250 goods value thresholds do not apply on this route; instead, per the Toldstyrelsen page 'Travelling within the EU' captured live from toldst.dk on 2026-09-27 (HTTP 200), goods may be brought in free of customs duties, VAT and excise duties only if they are for your own personal use — meaning that only you, persons in your household or your private guests use the goods. Selling the goods (e.g. in your local sports club or at work) or bringing in goods for other persons who are not travelling with you is not own personal use and requires payment of excise duties (and possibly a deposit for certain types of packaging). Quantity limits for alcohol and tobacco. When you are 18 years old: cigarettes 800 pcs; cigarillos (max. 3 g each) 400 pcs; cigars 200 pcs; smoking tobacco 1 kg; spirits (above 22% alcohol and beverages to which alcohol has been added) 10 litres; fortified wine (22% alcohol or less, e.g. Port, Sherry and Madeira) 20 litres; table wine (e.g. red, white and rosé wine and cider-based wine) 90 litres, of which maximum 60 litres of sparkling wine such as champagne; beer (and beer-based cider) 110 litres. If you are 16 or 17 years old: you are not allowed to bring tobacco into Denmark from another EU country; you are allowed to bring beer and wine of a strength of up to and including 16.4% — the page lists table wine 90 litres (of which maximum 60 litres sparkling) and beer 110 litres — while anything stronger is fortified wine or spirits, which you may not bring into Denmark if you are under 18. Some items require a permit, while others are completely forbidden from being brought into Denmark (details on the separate special-items page, not captured this round). For further legal information the page refers to Toldstyrelsen's legal guide (in Danish).

When to apply

When entering or leaving Denmark: fill in the declaration form (in Danish or English; with MitID login or without MitID) in advance or at a customs office when travelling, and save your reference number; even if you fill in the form in advance, you must always go to the customs office at the airport or where you enter or leave Denmark, quote the reference number — the Danish Customs Agency will process the declaration and can give you a physical receipt — and bring the receipt with you when entering and/or leaving Denmark as necessary.

Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)

Direction and trigger: when you enter or leave Denmark with cash or other liquid funds ('monetary instruments') equal to a value of EUR 10,000 (approx. DKK 75,000) or more, you must declare to the Danish Customs Agency the monetary instruments you are bringing. Per the page 'If you are travelling with large amounts of valuables' captured live from toldst.dk on 2026-09-27 (HTTP 200), this is stated for entering or leaving Denmark — not restricted to the EU external border as the v25 baseline record asserted — and applies regardless of the type of currency and regardless of whether you are travelling as a private individual or on company business. You must also declare even if you are only in transit, for example when travelling by car or train, or if you go ashore from a ship and travel onwards to another country right away. Monetary instruments are cash, bearer securities (for example traveller's cheques and cheques) and certain types of gold: gold coins with a gold content of minimum 90%, and gold bullion or nuggets with a gold content of minimum 99.5%. This traveller procedure does not cover monetary instruments sent by mail, freight or courier, which follow other rules (Danish-language page). If you do not declare your monetary instruments and all the information required in the declaration form, you risk being fined and having your valuables seized; the Danish Customs Agency also has the right to examine and seize amounts both below and above EUR 10,000 if there are indications that they are connected with criminal activities.
