Declaration to Border Police at entry; BCV prior authorization before travelling with amounts above the ceiling.
Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)
Direction: entry into Cabo Verde (and foreign-currency purchase for travel abroad). Anyone may purchase foreign legal-tender notes and coins and other foreign payment means up to the limit of 1,000,000$00 (CVE) to meet travel or tourism expenses abroad; acquiring and travelling with amounts above that limit requires justification and prior special authorization from the Banco de Cabo Verde. Travellers entering the country carrying foreign banknotes and coins exceeding 1,000,000$00 must declare that value to the border police authorities and immediately deposit the remainder in a national- or foreign-currency account opened for that purpose in order to move the money freely. The Cabo Verde Airports (state airport operator) passenger guide states the same rules, including that the declaration is made to Border Police at entry.

Checked at exit; proof obligations arise when requested by border police.
Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)
Direction: departure from Cabo Verde. Export of national banknotes and coins (escudo, ECV) is free up to 20,000$00 per person per trip; beyond that, prior special authorization of the Banco de Cabo Verde with justification is required. Non-residents may leave the country freely with the equivalent of up to 1,000,000$00 in foreign banknotes and coins or other means of payment abroad, in addition to credit or other payment cards and bank or traveller's cheques issued abroad. A non-resident wishing to leave with more than the equivalent of 1,000,000$00 must, when requested by border police authorities, prove either that they entered the country with an amount equal to or greater than that value, or that they acquired it from authorized entities.
