Currency: on entry, Form 530 must already be completed on arrival through the first port, airport or border crossing of entry; on exit, it must be fully completed once migration formalities before the competent authority are concluded, even if the intended trip is not ultimately carried out. Where a baggage declaration is required, the completed form is handed to the customs officer at the control post before the baggage belts.
Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)
Every traveller entering the national customs territory must present baggage to the customs authority. The same single Form 530 ("Declaración de Equipaje, de Dinero en Efectivo y de Títulos Representativos de Dinero – Viajeros", one sheet with entry and exit boxes) is conditional and must be completed only in listed cases, on entry or exit: baggage subject to the single tax; goods other than personal effects exceeding US$2,000 or in commercial quantities; carrying cash of any currency (including Colombian legal currency) or monetary instruments strictly above US$10,000 equivalent, assessed per traveller or family unit; regulated plants, animals and their products including pets; cultural-heritage goods or goods controlled by the Ministry of Culture or of Environment and Sustainable Development; temporary duty-free professional articles of residents abroad; accredited medical-mission supplies; unaccompanied baggage; and goods requiring a change of import modality. A family unit is persons travelling together with civil, consanguineous or affinity ties; under DIAN Concept 014750 of 3 August 2026 it covers spouses, permanent partners and collateral relatives such as siblings, uncles, nephews and cousins (merely affective or occasional-cohabitation ties do not qualify), amounts carried by members are aggregated against the US$10,000 threshold — a group must declare even if no member alone exceeds it — and one Form 530 may cover the whole group; unrelated co-travellers are not automatically combined. Goods treatment on entry (travellers modality — a layered quota treatment, not a separate form; quotas are personal, minors receive 50%, duty-free shop purchases count): accompanied non-commercial goods up to US$2,000 duty-free, max 10 units per class; a further US$3,000 tier for household, sporting and professional/art/craft items, 3 units each — duty-free when accompanied, 15% single tax when unaccompanied; personal/family-use items up to 10 units per class at 15% single tax; up to 3 mobile phones enter as personal effects but must be declared in Form 530 with IMEI and value. Airlines must hand arriving travellers the prescribed form free of charge, and at land or sea crossings it is available at customs control posts, ports and border crossings; the current official pages show no online filing channel.
