When to apply

Filled and transmitted fully online, optionally before travel; a receipt is issued on transmission. Entry: present at disembarkation after collecting baggage, choosing the red channel. Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)

Travellers (passengers and crew), Brazilian or foreign, entering or leaving Brazil, carrying specified declarable goods or cash — not all personal effects. Physical cash strictly above US$10,000 (or equivalent) triggers e-DBV on entry AND on departure; exactly US$10,000 does not ('mais de US$ 10.000,00'). Entry also triggers: goods above the duty-free value and/or quantity quota; temporary-admission goods with global value over US$3,000 that will return abroad (guide: for non-residents in Brazil); goods for a legal entity or outside the baggage concept; goods bound for common import-regime clearance; items under other federal agencies' control (animals, plants and derived products; medical and dental products; medicines, vitamins and supplements except personal use; weapons and ammunition). Departure also triggers: goods above US$2,000 registered in DU-E to prove domestic purchase; proof of cash origin may be demanded on exit. An under-16 carrying declarable items has the e-DBV filed in the minor's name and signed by a parent or guardian. Voluntary filing is allowed to document regular entry; declaring never makes prohibited goods (narcotics etc.) admissible.
