When to apply

At the moment of entry or exit, at the Customs counter at the airport or harbor.

Who it applies to

Entering or leaving Aruba with strictly more than AWG 20,000 in cash or securities, including the equivalent in foreign currencies (to be converted into Aruban florins), must be notified to the Customs Department (Departamento di Aduana) with an MOT form (Unusual Transactions form) available at the Customs counter at the airport or harbor. Carrying exactly AWG 20,000 does not trigger the notification duty. You must also report cash or securities that you carry for someone else. The duty applies in both directions, at entry and at exit.

When to apply

On arrival in Aruba, at the Customs counter at the airport or harbor.

Who it applies to, exceptions and limits (full text)

Travelers arriving in Aruba by plane or boat can declare goods orally or in writing at the Customs Department (Departamento di Aduana) counter at the airport or harbor. A written declaration is always required for commercial goods, temporary export goods, and goods for which conditional exemption can be granted. Allowance background only (no separate submission act; goods above the allowances are declared and taxed): used personal goods brought temporarily to Aruba (e.g. clothing or a camera) are free of customs duties; passengers aged 16 or older are entitled to exemption from import and excise duties on passenger luggage — 200 cigarettes or 25 cigars or 50 cigarillos (each weighing not more than 3 grams) or 250 g of tobacco; 1 liter of spirits or 2.25 liters of wine or 3 liters of beer; and other goods up to a total invoice value of AWG 900 (raised from AWG 400 with effect from 1 April 2024). The exemption covers only goods for personal use, not for trade or use in a business or profession; the goods must be in the passenger's own possession, and exemption cannot be claimed for goods brought in as a group. Quantities or values above these maxima incur import and excise duties; certain goods are prohibited or require a permit (e.g. drones, medicines, plants, meat).
