Kenya eTA · field guide · ~15 minutes, plus document uploads

The fields where people get the official eTA wrong, in form order.

The Kenya portal publishes its required documents, but not the live form's regexes, character limits, or validation messages. These eight cards cover only the inputs named in the public application guide. No official pattern is claimed.

§ Fields, in order

8 fields, 3 sections, ~15 minutes, plus document uploads total.

Section 1 · Eligibility and passport
01

Passport details

Use the passport you will carry. It must remain valid for at least six months after the planned arrival date and have at least one blank page.

02

Passport nationality

Choose the nationality on the passport used for this journey. Check the portal's current exemption list before paying; exemptions differ by nationality and passport or status.

Section 2 · Contact
03

Email address

Use an inbox you control. The portal emails receipt, payment confirmation when applicable, and the approval or refusal decision. Only the approval lets you travel.

04

Phone number

Give a number that works while travelling and include its country or region code. The public guide names phone number as required contact information.

Section 3 · Trip and stay
05

Arrival itinerary

Use the arrival details for Kenya from the confirmed itinerary. The public page does not publish the form's date format, so follow the live date picker.

06

Departure itinerary

Use the departure details for this trip. The eTA is valid for travel within 90 days of issue, but the stay granted is decided at the border.

07

Accommodation booking

Prepare the accommodation booking confirmation or confirmations. A family visit also needs the host's invitation and identity or immigration document.

08

Purpose of visit

Choose the real purpose. Business needs an invitation and company registration copy; medical, conference, employment, resettlement and family trips can trigger other documents.

§ After submit

What happens between hitting submit and getting through immigration.

  1. 01

    Confirmation screen

The official site shows a confirmation on screen. Screenshot it — that's your backup.

  2. 02

    Decision email arrives

Standard applications are generally processed within three working days, but verification can take longer. The receipt email is not approval.

  3. 03

    At immigration

Wait for the approval email. Download or print the attached PDF and show the approved eTA at departure and on arrival.

  4. 04

    Save the approval PDF

The official FAQ says to print the attached PDF or save it on your phone or in the official app for departure and arrival checks.

  5. 05

    No approval means no travel

The portal says you may travel only after Government of Kenya approval. A receipt or payment confirmation does not replace it.

The portal’s public guide names the information and documents below. It does not expose the live form’s regexes, character limits or validation messages. Follow the controls shown in your application rather than copying a format from another country.

Before opening the application

Check the exemption list first. If your passport or status is exempt for this trip, do not start a paid standard application.

Prepare a passport that remains valid for at least six months after arrival and has one blank page. Keep a selfie or passport-style photo ready. Use the same passport in the application and at the border.

Contact and itinerary

Use an email inbox you control. Three separate messages can arrive: receipt, payment confirmation when applicable, and the final approval or refusal. Only the final approval permits travel.

Give a working phone number. Copy the arrival and departure details from the current booking, not an old itinerary. Prepare accommodation confirmation for the stay.

Purpose-specific evidence

Choose the real purpose of travel:

  • business: invitation letter and company registration copy;
  • family visit: host invitation plus the host’s identity card, passport, alien card or entry permit;
  • medical or conference travel: the relevant appointment or participation letter;
  • employment or resettlement: the supporting document named by the portal.

The portal may also request vaccination or test certificates based on the application answers.

Submission and result

Review every value before payment. The terms say the fee is non-refundable and that a mistake can require a new paid application.

Save the reference number. Standard applications are generally processed within three working days, but can take longer. Download the approval PDF only after the decision is issued. A receipt, payment email or pending status is not an eTA.
